The Doctor and Charley arrive on an island populated by werewolves. But these are not your normal, garden variety werewolves – oh no, this is an endangered species. You and Whose Origami?

And the Prince, heir-apparent to the throne, is impatient to take the power that is his due. Manchester Paradox!

Big Finish Folly, Part 103 – The Raincloud Man, by Eddie Robson

The Raincloud ManA greasy breakfast – at which Charlotte Pollard fully intends to confess the truth of her paradoxical nature – is interrupted by the presence of a 2012-minted coin in 2009. And so the Doctor is haring off to Manchester, in search of another time traveller. Kroton Soup

Big Finish Folly, Part 102 – Return of the Krotons, by Nicholas Briggs

Return of the KrotonsOnyakis: a dead asteroid with plenty of mineral resources to be mined. When the Tardis turns up, the last remnants of the human race, fleeing a dying Earth, are doing exactly that. One crystaline mineral in particular seems to hold the key to unlimited power. But the commander of the colony ships brooks no resistance, and rules with a tyrannical, murderous hand. Yet when the crystals begin to melt and reform, he’ll discover entities far more lethally determined than himself…

Ton up! The Folly has hit 100 posts! Well, technically we’ve already reached that milestone, thanks to the necessities of having to fit in Davison & Baker tales that came out after we’d passed them in the chronology, if you see what I mean, but still – this is post 100, excluding all the timey-wimey stuff!

Big Finish Folly, Part 100 – The Doomwood Curse, by Jacqueline Rayner

The Doomwood CurseWho’d have thought that attempting to return a book to a library would cause an entire timeline to collapse in upon itself? Not the Doctor, and certainly not Charlotte Pollard, who has come across the aforementioned overdue gothic romance in the Tardis Library. But when the book is damaged, the hunt for a pristine first edition replacement becomes a desperate race against time to prevent the legendary outlaw Dick Turpin from reaching the gates of the city of York – where Charlotte Pollard will meet her end… (more…)

A Wrong Charley…?

Big Finish Folly, Part 99 – The Condemned, by Eddie Robson

The Doctor’s in the Grim North again – this time it’s Manchester, 2008. Ackley House is not a pleasant place to live in – the phones don’t work, the lights go out, there’s a prisoner is the basement. Meanwhile, in another flat, there’s a murdered alien. DI Menzies’s main suspect is the Doctor, but it seems that’s the least of his problems, because his new companion is a very odd woman called Charlotte Pollard… (more…)

The Light at the End

This is not a weekend for continuity. This is a weekend for celebrating 50 years of what is almost certainly the best TV show (and not forgetting also: books, feature films, audio productions, comic strips, stage plays – the list goes ever on) ever created. And for those who would rather point out the long hiatus between 1989 and 2005, I say again – books, feature films, audio productions, comic strips, stage plays – Doctor Who may have been off-screen for 16 years, but never once has it been dead.

Because Big Finish Folly is dedicated to the continuing audio adventures of Doctors 5-8, it makes a fair degree of sense for me to focus on Big Finish’s epic multi-Doctor celebration story – The Light At The End. Eight Doctors. The Master. More companions than you can shake a stick at. And a story full of twists, turns and perils. Read on below, but be warned – here be spoilers… (more…)
